"Road to Gold" is the seventh episode of Season 3, and the 33rd overall. It originally aired on December 7, 2012.
With only a week until their 100oz goal set by an investor is due, Todd Hoffman finally receives his trommel. After issues dragging it to the spot to sit, the plant is finally running. However, after only 20 minutes of running, the engine begins to overheat, and the inventor, Ray, suggests they replace the engine. Meanwhile, Dave Turin and his crew shut down after a root falls on a conveyer belt, and jams the plant. After a few hours, they fix the problem, and return to running. After their clean out, they are able to get 63oz of gold, more than double their best clean out ever. This leaves only 7oz left to reach the goal, which Todd vows to get himself.
In Porcupine Creek, "Dakota" Fred and Dustin Hurt have a surprise meeting with an MSHAW agent, who checks to see of their mine is running up to code. After hours of investigating, they are hit with a single violation, a broken windshield. They are still able to run, and begin digging the glory hole again.
With the money he has received from the last two great clean outs, Parker Schnabel begins to rebuild the road to Smith Creek Hill. To accomplish this, he enlists his father to blow a large boulder that blocks his path. After a loader nearly takes a 40ft drop while building, the road is finished, and Parker is now ready to mine.
